One in 18 people in the United States lives in deep poverty, including 6 million children. Why is poverty so persistent after decades of work by federal, state and local groups to eliminate it? Can we dismantle it? Please join KHS history teacher Greg Smith and Select Board member Karen Plattes at Kennebunk Free Library to discuss Matthew Desmond’s “Poverty by America”. We’ll meet the first Wednesday of the month from 6:00-7:30 PM starting October 2, 2024 through February 8, 2025. Desmond challenges preconceived notions of poverty. If we better understand the systems upholding poverty, we can begin to take actions to dismantle them. All are welcome! Sponsored by Many Towns, One Circle: Challenging Racism and Injustice and KFL.
